Dissolve Me

On December 29, a female died in Delhi, India. Lots of lives are lost everyday, just as there are brought in, but this case is especially traumatizing for me, and really important to share with you. I'm going to copy and paste what this Wiki page says about the event. Here it is:

"The victims, a 23-year-old female physiotherapy intern and her male friend, were on their way home after watching a film in Saket in South Delhi. They boarded a chartered bus at Munirka for Dwarka that was being driven by joyriders at about 9:30 pm. The minor among the accused had called for passengers telling them that it was going towards their destination. The woman's friend became suspicious when the bus deviated from its normal route and its doors were shut. When he objected, the group of six men already on board taunted the couple, asking what they were doing alone at such a late hour.

When the victim's friend tried to intervene, he was beaten, gagged and knocked unconscious with an iron rod. The men dragged the woman to the rear of the bus, beating her with the rod and raping her while the bus driver continued to drive. Medical reports later suggested that the woman suffered serious injuries to her abdomen, intestines and genitals due to the assault, and doctors say that the damage indicates that a blunt object (suspected to be the iron rod) may have been used for penetration. That rod was later described by police as being a rusted, L-shaped implement of the type used with a wheel jack. After the beatings and rape ended, the gang threw the two from the moving bus. Then the accused allegedly tried to drive the bus over the girl but she was pulled aside in the nick of time by her male friend. One of the perpetrators later cleaned the vehicle. Police impounded it the next day. As she was pinned down and raped, the young woman put up a fight but was hopelessly outnumbered. She bit three of the men assaulting her. The bite marks on the three accused men are likely to be part of the Delhi Police's evidence in their chargesheet.
The woman and her companion were found by a passerby on the road, partially clothed and unconscious, around 11 pm. The passerby phoned the Delhi Police, who took the couple to a hospital, where the female victim was given emergency treatment and placed on mechanical ventilation. The victim was found with only 5% of her intestines left inside of her. A doctor at the hospital later said that the "rod was inserted into her and it was pulled out with so much force that the act brought out her intestines also. That is probably the only thing that explains such severe damage to her intestines."

This happened on December 16, and she died on December 29.

Right now, I am bawling my eyes out. My head hurts after crying so much. I can't stop re-reading the last two sentences of the above paragraph.

Earlier yesterday, I was walking past a crowded bus stop with my headphones in. I usually try and avoid eye contact with anyone on the street and walk as quickly as possible, and as I took out my phone, I dropped a $5 bill. A few seconds later, towards the end of the block, a young boy came up to me and said, "excuse me miss, you dropped this over there", and I turned around and saw his parents on the other side of this looooong block, where I had seemingly dropped my money by accident. No one at this bus stop, said anything to me. No one. But this boy ran all the way to the other side of the block as a result of my anxiety-packed walking speed, out of breath and handed me my money. After seeing his parents, I thanked him. Now, I am a very pessimistic person in general. Not as much of being angry, but more of being disappointed with everyone in the world because humans are such a fucked up species. Never has anything in human history been as polarized as it is now, (maybe the days when racism existed, I guess), but I'm referring to politics, and to other things. The event that occurred on December 16th to this 23-year-old female and what happened to me yesterday is a living testament to how DIFFERENT humans can be. How nice and caring and genuine this boy was, to how disgusting and cruel and careless and empathy-lacking people can be, like the six men who raped and TORTURED BASICALLY TO DEATH, THIS HARMLESS WOMAN. My duty as a woman is not to tolerate sexism and oppression, but to know that we are all equal and impose these beliefs to everyone I know. Fortunately, I am very selective when it comes to people I choose to surround myself with, so I learn from my friends everyday and don't constantly engage in sexist conversations. Anyways, just thought I'd share in case you hadn't heard about this event. I'm really surprised I didn't hear about this considering I religiously read Huffington Post articles throughout the day on my phone. Thanks to Dark Vice's Facebook page I found out. It really hit me hard. Some days I just want to dissolve away because the amount of people who are cruel, and mean, and horrible, and disgusting, and SHITTY, becomes overwhelming for me.

getting back to the story in india... that is such a sad and disturbing story. it's hard to believe that people are capable of performing such disgusting acts. i find it really shocking when i keep hearing about gang rapes happening in india... it's not even an isolated incident, it's an epidemic over there because of their caste system.

Thank you for telling us this story. It was incredibly disturbing and made me cry. It is unbelievable how cruel people are living in this world. I mean, how can a human being torture a woman like this? What has happened with humanity? Is there any humanity left, at all?
Why on earth are humans so disgusting creatures.

A very truthful and honest post! It's been all over the news here and people are disgusted. Unfortunately sick acts like this happen far too often and I feel that some have even become numb to things like this that it doesn't affect them anymore and that's why it's not always in the papers.

I am not one of them, and it just horrifies me that there are people in the world who can do such things.

it kinda hit me one day last week when i got into a lift with a bunch of strangers, when a thought popped into my mind "what if they just turned around and started doing somethign liek that to me?"
we are so lucky in our wetsern soceity, and we don't even realise it.

Thank you for updating me on this news article. I knew she died, but didn't know the sad, inhuman and unbelievable details of her death. No one should should die or experience an ordeal like that. I am as sad as you and ready to move to another planet too. How do we as a human species stop atrocities like that?
