Don't Finger the Pizza

WTF is life?! Too many fantastic things happened this week. The highlight of them all was attending the Thought Catalog at The Last Bookstore where Bebe Zeva was reading one of her pieces. She wrote a tutorial explaining how to be *twee* and it was so fucking hilarious. The writing was fantastic and I really loved everything about it, from the part about making sure to say sorry if you and your male-friend brushed arms by accident, to wearing the right loafers. So good. I attended the event with Isabel, Sabella, and Madeline! It was an honor to be in the presence of people that night who possess such good taste in food that can appreciate feta and hot sauce for what it truly is!!!!! Heaven!! We all hung out afterwards and laughed the night away.. *eerie laughter slowly fades* Blogger should really offer a little audio option where you can record up to 5 seconds of some noise or voice and include in a post. That would be great. I would include a 'ka ka! ka ka!' bird noise at the end of every post, followed by a farting noise.

This outfit is fo'real the most comfortable thing ever. It was really hot today and I couldn't have felt any less sweaty :-)

Lastly, I want to say thank you to Sophie, from www.darkvice.net, who has supported my brand, Miracle Eye, from the beginning, and rejected an offer from a brand that has ripped off one of my designs, who asked her to edit some photos for them, focusing on the product photos of the design they stole from me. She also wrote this post today regarding stealing and threw her magic graphic design powers on some photos from my shop and this blog. I really, really, appreciate it. I am going to end this post with something my friend told me today about people stealing from other people (creativity wise): The moment people start stealing, the beginning of their end has begun.

Here are some pictures of Thursday night with the almighty David Schilling standing on my left while we were at his pad!

Eva: Hi Eva! Firstly, I am extremely flattered that you'd compare, or even consider my teeny tiny brand, Miracle Eye, to be in the same tier and level as Jeffrey Campbell shoes are. Thank you. But unfortunately, we're not.

Jeffrey Campbell shoes are:

1) not very affordable to a normal middle-class teenager, family, adult, to anyone in reality making a decent amount of money or income. Miracle Eye is the complete opposite -- all my pieces are extremely affordable and on purpose so that ALL people with different kinds of incomes can own at least one piece of Miracle Eye in their life. there is NOTHING over $40 in shop, except one furry jacket and some vintage pieces. paying less than $40 for a sweatshop-free, original, quality piece is extremely reasonable and to some people, UNREAL because that's basically dirt cheap. it's not fun for the buyer or the seller to rip people off, therefore i don't.

2) the *fake* silver stingers shoes i own were not knowingly purchased with the intention of buying a pair of shoes that were nearly identical Jeffrey Campbell's. i save 'flatform shoes' as a saved search on ebay, i check it nearly every other day to see what's new -- and when these came up, i was ecstatic when i realized they were like $25! later, when i wore them for the first time in a post on here, someone asked if they were JC Stingers because they've been aching for them for so long. i googled it and that's when i realized what i had done.

3) i have not ONCE even hinted that this happened to me on this blog. i have talked about it countless times on my personal Facebook account, and have responded to only people who have messaged me through tumblr notifying me of the absolute disgust they were filled with when seeing another company ripping my independent brand off. so you can go stick a stick up your asshole. i certainly don't appreciate your condescending tone.

THANK YOU to the rest of the commenters! i really appreciate all the love and send it all back times 5! <3 <3 <3

Yeah, in response to Eva, knock-offs are only detrimental if they appeal to the same customer. Making a $25 pair of shoes that copy a $250 pair of shoes appeals to a different customer entirely. Furthermore, JC is a HUGE company, and Larissa is just Larissa, so that coupled with the fact that the two items are in the same price point and appeal to the same customer has a much more extreme and obvious impact on Larissa.

In other news, Larissa, you are lucky I don't know where you live, because I feel like after that hang out night, I'd just show up all the time, like, "Can Larissa come out and play?"

i can't believe that guy knocking off your stuff. ridiculous. just keep doing what you do.

also, i don't know WHY i haven't SEEN your shop before. i was blind but now i seeeeee.

ALSO, i'm so angry that i live in florida and i can't come hang out with all of you awesome ladies. sigh. one day.

ps your hair is fucking amazing.

First of all, insulting someone who's asking a question is...ejem...really mature.

Anyways, the fact that JC shoes are pricey, and therefore, not affordable for a person with a regular income does not mean that it is "OK" to copy their designs. The price on an object is not more than just a number, in reality the product itself has a higher value. The fact that companies like JC are "huge" and making lots of money already does not give the right to other labels to copy their designs and sell the object for a lower value. Even if the target costumer is not the same.

In reality, everyone who is dying to get a pair of shoes could -if they wanted to- save $250 and buy the original one, but of course its easier, faster -and cheaper- to spend $ 25. Furthermore, big companies also have big costs, you know? The retailer needs to be paid a certain amount of money for the sell of the products, designers who have come up with the design also need to be payed, other people who work at the "huge" company and they also spend ridiculously amounts of money not only placing the ads but also paying the models (because they are not next doors neighbors, they can actually earn $ 20 grand a day), photographers, make up artist and everyone involved in the actual making of the ad and getting the product to be known. To other label to come and copy the product that is already known and sell it for half (or even less) of the price is STILL AS fucked up.

Yeah it sucks when it happens to "independent" small labels, but it also hurts "the big company" when it happens (in the end, THEY should be the ones making the money for THEIR design, no?). So no, there's no excuse. On your post featuring the rip-offs you actually label them as "Shoes - eBay (fake JCs!!! Got them for like, $30!)", so even though you say "you didn't buy the pair with the intention of buying fake JC" after you knew you were not only wearing the copy design but also borrowing the name of the original one, which is again, fucked up.

Yeah, copycats and rip-offs suck and are VERY fucked up, and no, there's no excuse. If someone wants to buy a copied design its their problem but its kind of ironic that you were "excited" to own a pair of fake JC's but when some brand decided to copy your design you changed completely not only your tone but also your speech related to rip-offs.

Eva.

PS: do you know that in france the police can actually BAN your entry to the country and make you pay a H-U-G-E fine if you carry a fake LV bag with you? Yeah, thats how serious the whole "authors' rigths" deal is.
